Work from home is great. Bad internet is not…

With WFH coming more and more we need fast internet everywhere. In small towns (at least here in Germany) it is impossible to do more elaborate stuff without wasting hours on hours looking on loading bars doing nothing.

There is fiber glas internet in most bigger towns. The smaller it gets the worse the internet is. When you need to live in big expensive towns just for good enough internet to work from home, what‘s the point?

With bad internet it is a buggy experience to work together on projects with collegues. Video calls are crashing. It takes hours to download bigger files. We’re talking about one gigabyte an hour or so.

To date the two easiest solutions to this problem are:

  1. Move to a bigger city, which mostly is more expensive.
  2. Switch to unlimited LTE internet with a LTE router, which also is more expensive.

I pay rougly 200 bucks for unlimited LTE internet. Thats about 4 times as much as ‚normal‘ WiFi would cost.

And fiber glas would still be faster at the end of the day.
