Today I’m writing about the most important things from Apple’s One More Thing hardware event today. For those of you who don’t know, Apple already announced a few months ago that it would over time switch all Mac chips — from Intel to its own, ARM-based chips. Today Apple announced three new devices with its new M1 chip — all with better performance and HUGE battery improvements.

First: I can only recommend watching the presentation in its entirety here. The company has once again shown what it can do. The 50-minute show is elaborately produced. It’s a joy to watch.

Let’s take a look:

Apple introduced a new 5nm chip called M1

There we have it: Apple is making the leap to a 5 nm chip called the M1. It has an 8-core processor which, according to Apple, contains the fastest CPU cores of any processor ever made. Apple also says it can perform better than the “latest PC laptop chip” — while being more energy efficient.

First M1 MacBook Air — starting $999

Apple launched the new MacBook Air with the new M1 chip for $999. It looks exactly like the previous model. However, the new chip allows for better battery performance — up to 18 hours of video playback, which is a huge leap. That’s 6 hours more than before. You also get twice the endurance for FaceTime calls or 15 hours of web surfing. Also: There is no more ventilation, which means that the Macbook is silent.

And with the new chip, MacBook wakes up instantly when you turn it on — just like an iPad or iPhone. That’s just great!

You can order the new MacBook Air today, November 10, 2020.

Macbook Mini with the M1 chip — starting $699

The new M1 chip also comes to the desktop — with Mac mini. The performance: Up to 3x faster CPU, up to 6x faster graphics and up to 15x faster machine learning compared to the previous model — not bad at all! The new device has 2 Thunderbolt/USB-4 ports and can be connected to the Pro Display XDR display with its 6K resolution.

Orders starting today, November 10, 2020.

Last but not least, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro was equipped with the new M1 processor. You get a CPU up to 2.8x faster and a graphics processor up to 5x faster than the previous model. This time, according to Apple, the Pro gets the longest battery life of all Macs. That means up to 20 hours of video playback. Its Thunderbolt USB 4 ports support a resolution of 6K with the Pro Display XDR.

MacBook Pro starts at $1299 and orders also begin today, November 10, 2020.
